Care services

Supported living

Your own tenancy with the right level of support alongside it, from a few hours a week to full-time.

Supported living is a tenancy first and a care service second. The person holds their own tenancy, has their own front door, and buys in the support they need — which means the support can change without anyone having to move.

That distinction matters. It is the difference between a home someone has rights over and a placement someone has been put in.

Who this suits

  • Adults with a learning disability, autism or a mental health condition moving towards independence
  • Young people moving on from children’s services
  • People moving out of residential care or hospital
  • Commissioners and social workers arranging a placement with a proper tenancy

When it is not the right answer. Supported living is not the right label for everything. If someone needs twenty-four hour nursing, that is a different service, and calling it supported living helps no one.

Questions

What families ask about supported living

If yours is not here, ring 0161 531 3233 and ask.

Do you provide the housing?

No — we provide the support. We work alongside housing providers and can help you find the right one.

Who funds it?

Usually the local authority or an ICB, sometimes a direct payment. We can help you work out which route applies.

Can support hours change later?

That is the point of supported living. Hours flex with need, and the tenancy stays put.
