Care services
A carer moves in, so there is always someone there — usually less disruptive, and often less costly, than a care home.
Live-in care is the option most families do not know exists until someone tells them. A carer moves into the spare room and is there through the day, with proper breaks and their own space.
For a couple, or for someone with a house, a garden and a cat they do not want to leave, it is very often the better answer. The person stays where they are, keeps their routine and their neighbours, and the family stops driving over at 6am.
When it is not the right answer. It needs a spare room the carer can call their own. It also needs the person to be reasonably comfortable with someone living in the house — for some people that is harder than a care home, and it is worth being honest about that early.
What is included
The care plan is written with you, so this is a starting point rather than a fixed list.
Personal care, meals, medication, company and supervision, without watching the clock.
Cooking, laundry, shopping, light housework and the day-to-day admin of a home.
Appointments, the shops, the pub, the garden centre, visits to family.
A carer sleeping in, available if needed. Waking nights are arranged separately.
One carer can support both of you, which is very often what keeps a couple in their own home.
A second carer covers the live-in carer’s time off, so there is never a gap.
Yes — a bedroom of their own, with somewhere to keep their things. They are living there, not camping.
A live-in carer sleeps and can be woken if needed. If someone needs regular help every night, that is waking night care and we staff it separately.
For one person it is usually comparable; for a couple it is very often less. You get a written quotation after the assessment.
