Care services
Support that builds a life — college, work, friends, the bus route — not just a set of tasks.
Support for adults with a learning disability or who are autistic should be measured by what someone can do at the end of the year that they could not do at the start. Not by whether the tasks on a list got ticked.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to. It means matching on personality first, working at the person’s pace, and being willing to spend six months on something that looks small and is not.
When it is not the right answer. If someone’s support needs include frequent physical intervention, that requires a specialist behavioural provider and a properly resourced team. We would tell you that rather than take it on.
What is included
The care plan is written with you, so this is a starting point rather than a fixed list.
Shared interests and the right communication style matter more than a CV. You choose, and you can change your mind.
Cooking, budgeting, travel training, using the bus, managing appointments — at whatever pace it takes.
Getting there, staying there, and the support around it that makes it stick.
Clubs, sport, gigs, the pub, friends. This is support, not supervision.
Working with whatever someone uses — speech, Makaton, PECS, a device — and expecting to be understood in return.
Understanding what a behaviour is communicating, and changing the environment rather than the person.
